Dr. Berardi is the current President of the Canadian Acoustical Association and of the International Association of Building Physics (IABP). Dr. Berardi has been Canada Research Chair in Building Science (from 2021 to August 2024) and Full Professor and Director of the BeTOP center at Toronto Metropolitan University in Toronto, Canada (from August 2014 to August 2024). His main research interests are related to the study of innovative solutions and new materials for improving the performance within the built environment. Dr. Berardi' works on integrating nanotechnologies into building systems focus on organic bio-PCMs, and on granular aerogel. Dr. Berardi has an extensive publication record, including 200 peer-reviewed journals, 200 international conference papers, and ten books. Dr. Berardi’s publications have received 20,000 citations in Google Scholar, where he has an h-index of 64, while Scopus database counts over 12,500 citations and an h-index of 55. In 2024, Dr. Berardi chaired the Sustainability Forum in Toronto and was the Chair of the International Conference on Building Physics (IBPC). Dr. Berardi was also the Chair of the conference X IAQVEC 2019 (10th Int. Conference on Indoor Air Quality, Ventilation and Energy Conservation in Buildings) in Bari, Italy, which attracted 400 attendees. He has also given over 30 keynotes at international conferences worldwide. He is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Building Engineering. Moreover, he is a member of the editorial board of the journals. He has acted as a reviewer for over 100 journals and has been recognized as an Outstanding Reviewer for over 20 journals, including Building and Environment, Energy and Buildings, and Sustainable Cities and Society. His awards include (among others): Frontiers in 2024, the 2023 European Thermophysical Properties ECTP-NETZSCH AWARD; the 10th Canada's Clean16 award and Clean50 winner (list category: R&D), 2021; the Young Researcher Award by the AIGE in 2019; Early Research Career Excellence Award, Ryerson University, 2018; the Best Italian Engineer in North America award by the ISSNAF (Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation) in Washington in October 2016; among others.

Prof. C.-J. Li received his Ph.D. at McGill University 1992 and was a NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow Stanford University (US). He was an Assistant (1994), Professor (1998) and Full Professor (2000) at Tulane University (US). Since 2003, he has been a Canada Research Chair (Tier I) in Green Chemistry and E. B. Eddy Chair Professor at McGill University. He was a pioneer in using water as a green solvent and a leader in developing Green Chemistry for chemical synthesis. He was listed as a highly cited researcher by Thomson Reuters (2014-2017). He received a US NSF’s CAREER Award (1997), US Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award (2001), 2010 Canadian Green Chemistry and Engineering Award, 2015 R. U. Lemieux Award and 2018 Alfred Bader Award of the Canadian Chemical Society, the 2020 Catalysis Award and the 2022 CIC Medal of CIC, the 2021 Alexander von Humboldt Research Award, and the 2018 Killam Research Fellow of the Canadian Council of Arts among others. Dr. Li was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (2012), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) (2007), a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) (2012), Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada (2013), Fellow of the American Chemical Society (ACS) (2015), a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) (2016) and a Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences (2020).

Giulio Teodoro Maellaro was born in Brindisi (Italy) in 1955. He graduated in mechanical engineering from the University of Padua (Italy). He was an officer in the technical services corps of the italian army in the motorization sector. He taught thermotechnics and heating systems in industrial technical institutes. At the “Carnaro” Nautical Institute in Brindisi he taught marine machinery, on-board technical systems and mechanical technology. Expert in sustainable energy and energy transformations. Freelance designer engineer in the construction, plant engineering and energy saving fields. Convinced advocate of the need to immediately implement the energy transition. He created the SEWAT (Sustainable Energy by Waves Trap) device to obtain sustainable energy from sea waves.

Peer is the Founder and Research Director of the Sustainable Solutions Hub. He has over 30 years’ experience in R&D as Lead Scientist and Professor at the University of Queensland and Shanxi Agricultural University. His work led to five start-up companies, seven patents and >250 scientific papers that are highly cited (h-index 79). Peer’s expertise lies in Plant Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering and Regenerative Agriculture, and he developed the areas of Large-Scale Algae Cultivation and Plant Microbiome Engineering in Australia. He is a regular advisor to the Australian Academy of Science, the Australian Research Council and the European Science Foundation.
